Bolivia is one of the most diverse countries in the world, embracing several major ecoregions and supporting more than 1400 species of birds. For the past five years I have been working on a guide to cover this avifauna. It will appear in two volumes, the first a slim fieldguide containing 210 plates of artwork, accompanied by brief species accounts and maps, and the second a handbook to identification, ecology, taxonomy and status. Illustrations are being produced by a team of artists, including Eustace Barnes, David Beadle, Aldo Chiappe and Richard Johnson. These volumes are due to be published in tandem by Christopher Helm and Princeton University Press.
