Welcome to Neomorphus

Rufous-headed Woodpecker, one of Amazonia's bamboo specialists: relatively common in Guadua bamboo patches at Los Amigos. An Amazon Conservation Association Seed Grant ($8500) was awarded to Joe Tobias in February 2007. The project will run from March 2007 to December 2008, focusing on promoting ornithological research at Los Amigos Research Station (CICRA). The main outputs will include expeditions to the biologically unknown Los Amigos headwaters, a comprehensive publication on the avifauna of Los Amigos Conservation Concession, a Site Action Plan, and resources for ornithological researchers at CICRA, including photographic identification guides and web-based information. This ground-work forms part of a broader programme aimed at developing Los Amigos as the leading centre for ornithological research and training in the Amazon.
